$1,6 Million Romanee-Conti Bottles Set New World Record at Sotheby’s

A 114-bottle collection of Romanee-Conti from Domaine de la Romanee-Conti set new world record at Sotheby’s Autumn Hong Kong Sales, when sold for HK$12.6 million ($1.6 million). The price achieved per bottle was HK$110,1 ($14,121) which equals HK$13,8 ($1,700) per glass for 912 glasses. The price broke a previous auction record for a wine lot, set by Sotheby’s in 2006 when 50 cases of Chateau Mouton Rothschild 1982 sold for $1.05 million in New York, according to a company statement.

The collection, spanning from 1992 to 2010 with six bottles from each vintage, was purchased by an Asian buyer who wasn’t identified in a Sotheby’s list of sale results.
Robert Sleigh, Head of Sotheby’s Wine, Asia, commented, “The Romanée-Conti Superlot presented a once-in-a- lifetime opportunity to acquire an unprecedented quantity of the world’s most desirable wine. It is only fitting that it has broken the world record to become the most valuable single wine lot ever sold at auction at HK$12,556,250 / US$1,609,776.”
