Records from the archives of French writer Marcel Proust were auctioned in Paris for €750,000, according to Sotheby’s.
The most expensive, for €132,500, were sold handwritten part of the novel “In Svane” (Du cote de chez Swann), which have been estimated at between €30,000 and €50,000.
Proust’s portrait drawn with a graphite pen was sold for €45,000. This drawing of Jean-Bernard Ashman, with Proust on a mortuary bed, was estimated at between €1,000 and €1,500.

Letters sent by French publisher Gaston Galimar to Prousta were sold for €93,750.
Manuscripts and other items of the writer at the auction were presented by Proust’s cousin Mari-Claude Mant.
Proust (1871-1922) is best known for his monumental work “In Search of Lost Time”, which consists of seven novels, published over 14 years. This work has left a deep trace in world literature.
