Apple’s New iMac – Thinner and Lighter Than Ever

Apple unveils its redesigned iMac configuration. New device has received a stunning makeover with a new display and no optical drive and is now thinner and lighter than ever. Its aluminum and glass enclosure conceals high-performance technology, that can boasts with 40% less volume than its predecessor and is 80% thinner. It is just 5 millimeters in depth. A completely reengineered display on the new iMac reduces reflection by 75 percent still maintaining brilliant color and contrast, while its cover glass is fully laminated to the LCD and an anti-reflective coating is applied using a high-precision plasma deposition process.

“With a stunning design, brilliant display and faster performance, we’ve made the world’s leading all-in-one desktop computer better in every way,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “The all-new iMac is unbelievably thin, yet packs an incredible amount of performance and technology into our most innovative desktop.”

The new iMac features third generation quad-core Intel Core i5 processors that can be upgraded to Core i7, and can take up to 32GB of RAM. The device also has four USB 3.0 slots, two Thunderbolt ports and an SD card slot. Users will be able to choose between a traditional hard drive, an SSD or Apple’s Fusion Drive, new technology that allows users to have a hybrid SSD/traditional HD experience. This means that you’re most used and disk-intensive apps load from the SSD but your media, movies and music can still exist on a traditional hard drive.

Apple’s new ultra-thin iMac will be available in two version: a 27-inch model with a 2,560 by 1,440 pixel resolution, a 2.9GHz Ivy Bridge processor with 1TB hard drive, that will go on sale in December. The price starts at $1,799. The 21.5-inch iMac with a 1,920 by 1,080 pixel resolution, a 2.7GHz Ivy Bridge processor with 1TB of storage will go on sale in November, and it is cheaper and starts at $1,299.

Additionally, Apple updated its Mac mini computer, which features a 2.5GHz dual-core i5 processor, a Thunderbolt port, four USB 3.0 ports, and an SD card slot. It has 4 GB of RAM and 500 GB of storage, and the price starts at $599.
