Royal Mansour, built on 3.5 hectares within the walls of the old city of Marrakech, was created to authentically represent the classic forms of the traditional medina – an elegant composition of Riads, restaurants and a spa, arranged around the reception area,with its lobby, dining, bar, lounges and library. It was handmade by 1,200 artisans using the best stones, marbles, tiles, silks, satins, beads, feathers and cedar. For this magnificent place there was no budget, only the royal edict to make it the most beautiful example of Moroccan architecture in the world.

The hotel doesn’t plan to advertise and it is not cheap. Prices run from $1,928 a night for a one-bedroom riad (a traditional, three-story, Moroccan style house), to $5,397 for a two-bedroom, or $38,552 for the almost 20,000-square-foot Riad d’Honneur.

The hotel is designed like an old Moroccan city with winding paths lined with lily ponds and fountains that open suddenly into sunny squares of palm trees, brilliant bougainvillea and aromatic olive and lemon trees. The public spaces—lounges, bars, library, and restaurants—are built, as are the 53 accommodations, as riads with all rooms on all levels opening inwardly onto a courtyard and upwardly to an array of carved arches.

The Royal Mansour hotel has three restaurants all overseen by Yannick Alleno, the chef of Paris’s Le Meurice hotel, where he earned, and has retained, three Michelin stars in 2007. The stars are much in evidence in the setting, service and food at two dinner restaurants, one French and one Moroccan. The ‘Pigeon in Crispy Pastille’ in the Moroccan restaurant is a delicate patty of tender shredded pigeon in crispy layers of millefeuille, an edible work of art, while the ‘Orange Salad’ dessert offers magical orbs of orange ambrosia that burst in your mouth like citrus caviar.

The 26,900 sq.-ft. spa is located in its own glazed pavilion surrounded by a moat and features a fitness center, spa treatment rooms, and an indoor pool.

NYC South Gate Restaurant Launch Custom Designed iPad Wine Tablets

When the iPad first came out back in April, the main question on the minds of consumers and critics was what, exactly, the thing was for. It could do most of the stuff a laptop could do, but not as well (no keyboard, multitasking, Adobe Flash). It could do everything a smartphone could do, except make calls. Finally, the posh South Gate restaurant has figured out a real use for this hot tech gizmo: Custom Designed iPad Wine Lists.

Assuming that their wine-drinking customers are tech savvy, the restaurant has listed more than 650 bottles on their wine tablets. These iPads will dole out detailed information about the major wine regions and varietals at the touch of the button. Also it is programmed to automatically update the wine list as labels sell out.

The iPads will be available for diners to use, but if you’re like my dad, you can always have the sommelier handle your wine queries.

South Gate restaurant, with its iPad wine lists is located at 154 Central Park South in the Jumeirah Essex House, and offers modern American cuisine. The restaurant was designed by Tony Chi and features the cuisine of executive chef Kerry Heffernan.

Standing 118 stories high, the Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong will become the flagship property for the Ritz-Carlton in Asia and occupy levels 102 to 118 in the International Commerce Centre, Hong Kong’s tallest building. The 312 guest room hotel will feature an indoor infinity pool, spa, gym, rooftop restaurant and restaurants on lower floors. The hotel’s guest rooms will occupy floors 106-117. The interior design of the hotel depicts a modern and trendy vibe in the restaurants and lobby areas, with a soft and somewhat romantic twist in other sections of the hotel.

The opening of the Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong, which will be the world’s highest hotel is still about five months away but already the hotel has 20 bookings for wedding receptions and is getting six or seven more enquiries a day.

A project of tree-houses designed as world-class hotel rooms is all set to open in Sweden on July 17 for nature lovers. Treehotel, located in Harads about 60 km south of the Arctic Circle, will consist of four rooms when it opens on July 17th: the Cabin, the Blue Cone, the Nest and the Mirrorcube plus the TreeSauna.

They have all been constructed from wood and glass and feature an electric floor heating system, a state-of-the-art eco-friendly incineration toilet and a water-efficient hand basin. The interior of each tree house will be uniquely designed using furniture and lighting that complements an individual theme.

The exterior reflects the surroundings and the sky, creating a camouflaged refuge. A special film will be applied to the glass which will be visible to birds, which is just one of the steps being taken to minimize Treehotel’s impact on local wildlife. The motto of Treehotel is to feel free in a tree and rooms will cost up to 4,200 Swedish crowns (£370) for two guests in the Mirrorcube, which is designed to hold up to four guests. The impressive glass construction stands four metres high and four metres wide, and is attached to a single tree.

The hotel will be open all year round which means guests will be able to enjoy good views of the northern lights in the winter and the midnight sun during the summer.

As part of their fleet upgrade and expansion program, Royal Jet, the Abu Dhabi-based international luxury flight services company chaired by His Excellency Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, has once again raised the benchmark for luxury air travel following delivery of its sixth Boeing Business Jet (BBJ).
