In April, representatives of Las Vegas Railway Express Inc. announced plans to develop the X Train, a conventional project using existing railroad tracks to carry passengers between Los Angeles and Las Vegas. The trip, primarily on Union Pacific Railroad tracks, would deliver passengers in 5-5 1/2 hours, five days a week for $99 round-trip. While the X Train wouldn’t make the trip across the desert any faster — the proposed route would actually take longer than driving, the rail would have a distinct focus on giving passengers a taste of Vegas before they ever hit the Strip.

The St James’s Hotel and Club, whose members have included Sir Michael Caine and Sir Sean Connery, is up for sale . According to London Times, the hotel has been listed for £60 million, by the owners, the Landesberg and Rosenberg families, who had been in possession of the hotel for the past five years. They bought the propery for £20 million and then spent millions on renovations. The result is an elegant destination that includes the fine dining restaurant Seven Park Place. The hotel is currently part of the Althoff group of hotels. The majestic townhouse features black lacquered furniture, handcrafted Murano glass chandeliers, hand-made silk wall-paper and mattresses made from Hypnos.

Hollywood Sign to Become Luxury Hotel?

As part of a unique project, the iconic Hollywood sign would be turned into a hotel with spectacular views. Well, it’s just on paper yet, by Danish architect Christian Bay-Jorgensen has come out with plans for a makeover to make the Hollywood sign into a super-luxury hotel.

The Los Angeles Daily News recently reported that a Danish architect met with the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to propose that a luxury hotel, incorporating the 9-letter sign, be built on the site. His plan calls for each letter to be rebuilt 90 feet tall (twice their current height) and enclose lavish guest rooms with enviable views of the city. The rest of the hotel would be built behind the letters and would, in Bay-Jorgensen’s plan, include public spaces that could serve as locations for awards ceremonies.
