Christie’s London Announces Jeff Koon’s Baroque Egg for June Sale

Giant Easter Egg with Bow (Blue/Turquoise) sculpture by contemporary artist Jeff Koons will be highlight at Christie’s London the Post-War & Contemporary Art Evening Auction on June 27. The estimate is £2,500,000-3,500,000 ($3.97 million-$5.56 million).

This monumental sculpture is almost two metres tall (199x195x163cm) and is part of Jeff Koons’ Celebration series. It is constructed of high-chromium stainless steel with transparent color coating. This Baroque Egg is the only work of its kind to exist in brilliant blue/turquoise.

What’s most interesting about the eggs is that there are five of these eggs, realized in 1994-2008, each uniquely colored. Two previously sold. One went in 2009 (for $5.4 million) and the second got snapped up last November (for $6.2 million) so, estimate for this one is fairly modest. [Christie’s]
