The greatest male cyclist of all time is turning 70 years old this year. To celebrate the founder’s forthcoming 70th birthday, Eddy Merckx Cycles have launched the limited edition EDDY70 steel racing bike. Described as an ‘ultra-modern, state-of-the-art racing bike’, EDDY70 is a forerunner of a new ‘Heritage’ collection which is to launch in September.
The frame is made from a Columbus tubeset and it took about two days to build, including shaping, filing and welding each tube. The bikes will be built with custom-edition Campagnolo Super Record components and Campagnolo Bora Ultra 35 wheels. The EDDY70 logo is also emblazoned on the cockpit, seatpost and a Cinelli saddle.
Sold online for €14,000 ($17,500) a piece, there will by 70 numbered EDDY70 bikes. The first bike was presented to Merckx on Tuesday (January 27), while the remaining 69 will be delivered on July 17, the five-time Tour de France winner’s birthday.
