iTable – iPad’s Bigger Brother

PQ Labs showed off its G3 touchscreen technology at this year’s CeBIT by installing it into a coffee table called the iTable – the world’s thinnest Multi-Touch coffee table that will change the way you think, work and play. Being only 1/2 inch thicker than a laptop, iTable is truly a magical device raising the bar of future Multi-Touch solutions.

The iTable certainly won’t get any blessings from Apple with regards to its name, but aside from that, it’s really a cool computer that can recognize up to 32 fingers on its 42-inch full HD LED screen, allowing multiple folks to interact with it at the same time. Another important feature of the iTable is that it can recognize almost any object that’s interacting with it, be it a stylus, pen, glove, bottle, or cups, and this certainly opens up more possibilities for it.

The USB-powered Multi-Touch G3 touchscreen interface comes in sizes ranging from 32in right up to 65in and beyond. For the iTable, Silicon Valley’s PQ Labs installed a 42in version of the technology into a coffee table structure and connected it to an undisclosed computer system running the company’s PQ Window software, which is compatible with both Windows and Mac OS X.

Sharing content from a mobile device is as simple as placing an iPhone, Windows Mobile or Android phone on the table and it instantly synchronizes with the iTable. The technology can register shapes (such as a closed fist or open palm) and it’s not just hands and fingers that are recognized by the interface, objects placed on the iTable at CeBIT also registered.

There’s no word on the cost of the 1.5in thick iTable but as it is initially being made available to corporate clients only it’s not likely to be within the price range of most consumer budgets. However, PQ Labs has stated that a cheaper consumer version is in the works for the near future.

11 Year Old Son of Azerbaijan’s President Became the Owner of Nine Waterfront Mansions in Dubai

In an incredible shopping extravaganza, an 11-year-old son of Azerbaijan’s President bought nine waterfront mansions in Dubai – worth almost $44 million. The total price tag is roughly 10,000 years’ worth of salary for the average citizen of Azerbaijan.

The waterfront properties on the exclusive Palm Jumeirah development have been registered with Dubai’s Land Department under the name of Heydar Aliyev, the schoolboy son of President Aliyev. Besides his son, the Presidents daughters Leyla and Arzu, also appeared as the owners of Dubai properties, bringing the total value of the children’s alleged property portfolio to $75 million.

Azerbaijan is booming thanks to oil revenues of $7 billion last year alone, but most of its eight million people endure harsh poverty, and up to a million are refugees from the frozen conflict with Armenia over the enclave of Nagorno-Karabakh.

The President, whose official salary in Azerbaijan is about $228,000 a year, will surely find it hard to get away with such extravagant spending. Ilham Aliyev’s spokesmen declined to comment on how the president’s son or his namesake managed to came to own mansions on Palm Jumeirah, a luxury real estate development popular with multimillionaire British soccer stars and rich people.

This is the Bentley Continental Flying Star by Touring Superleggera, a stylish transformation of a 2-door coupe in a shooting brake with plenty of space to join a hunting party or a golf tournament which keeps the elegance and efficiency. Based on either the Bentley Continental GTC the Flying Star can be built with a 560 hp twin-turbo 6.0-liter W12 engine, or the GTC Speed with a 610 hp engine, only 20 examples will be built at a base price of about $800,000 each.

The rear bodywork was also reinforced with an integrated structure between the rear suspension domes, functioning both as roll bar, and as support for the new, extended roofline. The term shooting brake does not refer to the braking system but originated with custom built two-door luxury estate cars altered for use by hunters and other sportsmen such as golfers, equestrians, and polo players requiring easy access to larger storage areas than offered by the typical automobile trunk.

The design is completed by the impressive 20-inch Borrani X-Ray spoke wheels. As you expected, inside, the car remains a true Bentley showing elegance, whether the back of the rear seats are folded or not.

Cell phones are everybody’s lifeline today. And since you are going to carry one everywhere you go, why not make it chic and classy? Luxury mobile phone brand Gresso has unveiled its new range of mobile phones, Grand Monaco Red which comes with a strange looking red coloured alligator skin.

The Swiss company said the new handset, part of its “Grand Monaco” collection, is crafted from a titanium-alloy material with high-tech ceramics and a steel keypad. As usual a hand polished sapphire crystal glass covers the screen, while red colored alligator skin adorns the back. Gresso designers choice went for the best types of alligator skin for the handsets, while also making sure that they are carefully processed within a full cycle.

For $2,800, Grand Monaco Red functionalities include 2 megapixel camera, WAP, GPRS, Bluetooth, SMS, MMS, email, EGDE, Java, personal organizer, FM radio and microSD card slot.

Pininfarina’s latest concept reveal at the Geneva Motor Show is an important celebration for both the 80th anniversary of the firm, and the 100th anniversary of Alfa Romeo. The quizzically named 2uettottanta concept is Pininfarina’s vision for how a next-generation Alfa Spider should look.

The 2uettottanta represents the culmination of an age-old partnership between the two Italian firms, and pays tribute to the iconic 60s-era Duetto roadster. The new two-seat spider not only maintains the cuttlebone design, but it even maintains some similar measurements. Though at 1797mm it is a full 170mm wider than the original, the new car measures 4213mm long by 1280mm high, about 40mm x 15mm less than the first version.

Alfa Romeo 2uettottanta - Pininfarina Concept

Pininfarina would like to see a 1750 cc longitudinal-mount turbocharged engine installed. The company chose this engine size as an homage to the Alfa 1750 Spider Veloce, which replaced the Duetto name in 1968. That car actually used a 1779 cc engine producing 118 horsepower.

Pininfarina designers crafted the front without several of the elements seen on Alfa’s current design theme. Bug-eye headlights set well above the bumper have been replaced with thin LED strip lights. There are no horizontal air inlets on either side of the signature upside-down grille.

The 2uettotanta Concept is also fitted with custom tires from Dunlop, mounted on lightweight alloy wheels whose design is a new interpretation of the classic five-circle Alfa Romeo pattern. The high-tech carbon-ceramic brakes are from Brembo.

Inside, Pininfarina has picked up on design cues from the original Duetto, like the perforated leather-covered three-spoke steering wheel, three classic barrel-shaped binnacles for the main instruments, and a central tunnel that emphasizes that this is a rear-drive car.

Pininfarina says the 2uettotanta is more than just a styling exercise; it’s research into the next-generation Alfa Romeo Spider, which is intended to be part of the Italian automaker’s return to the U.S. as early as 2012.

Chanel Retrograde Mysterieuse J12 to Celebrate Its Successful 10 Years

To celebrate the J12’s tenth anniversary, Chanel is offering a totally new watchmaking complication where aesthetics bow to technical prowess. The Chanel Rétrograde Mysterieuse J12 features a specially developed movement which moves the crown from the side of the case to on the side of the dial to preserve the aesthetic curves of the watch.

With the help of Guilio Papi, a new face of limited edition Retrograde Mysterieuse J12 watches with an even more complicated mechanism. These watches will be available as 10 limited edition pieces each in 18 carat gold and 18 carat pink gold. Laced with a tourbillon movement, the hands will run in the reverse direction between the 10 and 20 minutes each hour only to come back to its position after 10 minutes.

During this time, you can see the time in the digital display located between 5 o’clock and 6 o’clock on the watch dial. The dial itself is 47 mm in diameter made in black ceramic with an 18 carat gold bezel spotting ceramic inserts for hour-markers.

The hands are Pierced skeletons in 18 carat gold. The case is made of dual-face crystal having an anti-reflective coating and a similar sapphire back case. The movement used is the Chanel Calibre RMT-10, designed exclusively for Chanel by Renaud et Papi. The crown on the mother of pearl is made from circular-grained steel made in black ceramic and spots a “Clou de Paris” pattern in 18 carat gold. The strap is has 46 black ceramic l inked hindges with a Chanel patented three-part folding buckle in 18 carat gold. The watch has water resistance up to 30 meters.

Simple to devise but perhaps not so simple to produce! All the more so as this sequentially retrograded hand, duplicated by a digital display of minutes, is an absolute first in watchmaking history. Just like the vertical crown built into the dial, which is deactivated by pressing it flush with the crystal or activated by finger pressure to “release” and manipulate it.

Not quite breaking with tradition, the J12 Rétrograde Mystérieuse opens up a new perspective on perpetually contemporary watches.

Tesla Motors and TAG Heuer Show off New Custom Collector’s Edition Car – Tesla Roadster

Pioneering luxury Swiss watchmaker TAG Heuer and electric carmaker Tesla Motors have teamed up in a worldwide partnership as the iconic Swiss brand celebrates its 150th anniversary. Come the Geneva Motor Show and Tesla Motors and you see a new custom collector’s edition of their electric sports car, the Tesla Roadster.

This one-of-a-kind collector’s car includes a unique interior by Tesla Chief Designer Franz von Holzhausen, incorporating TAG Heuer avant-garde design elements and a specially designed center console due to host TAG Heuer’s cutting edge concept watch, to be revealed at this year’s Baselworld on March 18. This car also features a TAG Heuer Meridiist mobile phone as well as a one-fifth second Heuer Limited Edition Stopwatch. This Swiss-made timepiece with mechanical movement pays tribute to the 1860 founding of the company and evoques the mythic revival of the brand’s vintage stopwatches.

The car’s exterior color scheme is Foucault Field Gray, embodying the innovative spirit of both companies. The design was inspired by the new TAG Heuer concept watch, a technical milestone in mechanical movements, which brings technologically advanced art to life through motion.

Tesla Motors began developing an electric sports car in 2004 and remains the only automaker selling highway-capable electric cars. The Tesla Roadster accelerates faster than nearly any other supercar yet is twice as energy efficient as a Toyota Prius — the only car that delivers supercar performance guilt-free, with zero tailpipe emissions and a carbon footprint dramatically lower than any comparable sports car.

Based in California’s Silicon Valley, Tesla has delivered more than 1,000 cars to consumers in 21 countries. Advertising Age magazine recently named Tesla one of America’s “hottest brands.” The Tesla Roadster is quickly becoming the must-have car among Hollywood celebrities, European royalty and socially responsible trendsetters worldwide.

Tesla Roadster, a speedsters dream reaching speeds of 60mph in just 3.9 seconds, will remain at the Tesla booth during the public show days, March 4-14 at the Palexpo-Geneva conference center. Citroen Survolt Concept – Best Looking Concepts Car at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show

Following on form last year’s unveiling of the Citroen Revolte, this year’s Geneva Motor Show is showcasing the new Citroen Survolt as part of the French company’s continued efforts in electric vehicles. Probably one of the best looking concepts at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show floor, Survolt take best of Citroen Revolte concept and the Citroen GT concept.

Citroen’s latest concept car, the Survolt, is an unusual design study meant to show off a potential all-electric performance vehicle in an extravagant and “high-fashion” package. Performance specs were not revealed on the two-seater, but the French automaker does state that the car has a “motor racing punch”. The design is impressive, featuring voluptuous bonnet and generous, sculpted flanks highlighted by emphatic wheel arches as well as a front end characterised by slim, horizontal headlights, a large oval-shaped grille with Citroen’s integrated double chevrons and an eye-catching vehicle badge design. The rear design is completed by the impressive spoiler, a must-have in motor sport.

Citroen’s new and radical vision with Survolt is entirely consistent with the Company’s 90-years of history as an innovative brand, focused on creativity and technology. The Citroen Survolt measures 3.85 m long, 1.87 m wide and 1.20 m high and it looks the business in all regards. The car’s generous glazed area brings light and a sensation of space, light years from that offered by today’s sports cars.
