Hello Kitty is old enough to drink, so we should not be concerned about the fact that Sanrio’s character has its own wine. Italy’s Torti winery has teamed up with the Japanese company behind Hello Kitty, Sanrio, to create wines that perfectly capture Hello Kitty’s aura. Here is Sanrio’s official statement on the product: “Sanrio consistently looks for products and engagement points to continue deliver something newness and uniqueness to fans. The Hello Kitty Wine collection has delivered a new experience to the adult fan and is a licensed product from Europe, produced in partnership with Torti Wines. It has had limited distribution in the United States since 2010. The collection is currently available at specialty wine and grocery channels, and currently served exclusively at Antonello Ristorante in Santa Ana, CA.”
The Torti winery website reports that the wines include a variety of sparkling roses, sparkling whites, red and a rose.
Antonello Ristorante owner Antonio Cagnolo created an entire menu to accompany the Hello Kitty wine, available Oct. 12
“We worked diligently with the Sanrio people to pick and choose the right combination of food for the special wine,” said Cagnolo.
Menu highlights include watermelon shaped like Hello Kitty, served with microgreens, feta cheese and honey; a pink bowtie pasta with a four-cheese alfredo sauce; and a flourless chocolate cake shaped like Hello Kitty.
