Singapore Airlines’ Newest First Class Cabin Designed by BMW

When talking about luxury design, there is no better solution for Singapore AirlinesFirst Class interior than the BMW Group Designworks USA. The entire ambiance has been re-designed to offer passengers raised luxury levels with greater privacy and increased stowage and luggage space. The updated design for the seats and suites will make its debut this September on board the new Boeing 777-300ER on selected flights between Singapore and London. Singapore Airlines said it had spent two years and invested $150 million (US) for this venture.

“The significant investment in our next generation of cabin products reaffirms our commitment to product innovation and leadership, and demonstrates our confidence in the future for premium full-service air travel,” said SIA’s Executive Vice President Commercial, Mr Mak Swee Wah.

From the moment one boards the aircraft, first class guests are welcomed to lounge-like islands. In order to shield the area, both visually and acoustically, the outer walls of the seating zone have been extended to embrace the passenger like a protective arm.

At 35 inches in width and with an increased bed length from 80 to 82 inches, the seat is one of the most spacious First Class products in the sky. It is lined with fine leather, while a new covering technique for the upholstery increases tension in the material, which remains smooth and – even after hours of use – appears pristine.

A range of personal storage cubbies in the front entertainment area add surprising touches with their striking interior colours. Elegant tables are integrated into the front of the seating area; they can be extended simply and quietly without the need for any folding mechanism.

“Special attention has been given to ergonomics, comfort, convenience and design, as well as to our customers’ interests and lifestyles. The task that we gave ourselves and our design partners when we started the process was to make ‘A Great Way to Fly’ even better. We are confident that we have delivered,” Mr Mak Swee Wah explained.
