While the wait for the Mercedes SLS AMG roadster version continues on, Mercedes is making the wait a little more bearable by surprising us with Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 version. The sports car will compete in the 2011 racing season.

The body of the 2011 SLS AMG GT3 is the most significant difference from the road car starting with the aggressive front fascia and splitter to the massive rear spoiler. The hood of the race model is also very different from the normal SLS AMG with a large center cooling vent that helps to move air to cool the engine and the braking system. Along the side of the car, vents have been added to cool the rear brakes without compromising aerodynamics and all of these improvements to the overall cooling effort of the car makes it ideal for long road races.

Four weeks ago Mercedes-Benz released the new 2011 Mercedes CL Class to the world, and now, we are graced with its brawny AMG brothers, the Mercedes CL63 AMG and Mercedes CL65 AMG. These two cars offer better handling, more aggressive looks, higher base equipment specs, and, of course, a stupendous amount of power.

Like the standard 2011 CL, the AMG variants feature a revised grille, modified bumpers, and restyled headlights. Other exterior goodies include LED fog lights, 20-inch wheels, and an AMG exhaust system. Inside, the cabin is outfitted with premium leather upholstery, AMG heated-active ventilated front seats,with drive-dynamic multicontour support, a sport steering wheel, an AMG instrument clusterwith Racetimer, and ambient lighting. Tech features include GPS navigation, an 11-speaker Harman/Kardon audio system, a 6-disc DVD/CD changer, and an 8-inch Comand display.

Mercedes Benz SLS AMG Gullwing E-Cell – Fully Electric Supercar

Shortly after introducing the SLS AMG last year, Mercedes-Benz announced that it was also developing a battery electric version of the gullwing supercar. The first prototype is now ready to be shown to the world, resplendent in bright yellow paint, AMG Lumilectric Mango to be exact. The SLS’ awesome 6.2-liter V-8 is replaced with an all-electric powertrain for the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG E-Cell Prototype.

The all-electric Mercedes-Benz Prototype has slightly less horsepower than its gas-powered sibling. But it still has a very impressive 526 horsepower and 649-pound-feet of torque — the latter available from the moment you mash the pedal to the floor. When you do stomp the E-Cell’s accelerator, it will blast 60 mph in four seconds, according to the Benz AMG folks. Electric energy is pumped into the car via a 400-volt, liquid-cooled high-voltage lithium-ion battery pack that can be recharged under braking. The battery modules are located in front of the firewall, in the centre tunnel and behind the seats. Mercedes Benz reports there is no change in the Gullwing model’s aluminum spaceframe body. The exterior and interior however are not spared from a few design and style changes.

The GT3 has been developed in cooperation between Mercedes-Benz’s AMG division and HWA, a company headed up by one of the founders of AMG (Hans Werner Aufrecht) that oversees the German carmaker’s DTM (German Touring Car) race operations. The new car retains the visual flavor of the road-going SLS AMG but has been extensively reworked in line with the FIA’s latest GT3 regulations.
