Yas Waterworld – Middle East’s Largest Waterpark Opens Gates in December 2012

Yas Waterworld, Middle East’s largest waterpark, part of the Yas Island project, about which we’ve previously reported on several occasions, is more than 90 per cent finished, so it’s expected to open its gates early December 2012! Besides this 43-ride water park, as a part of Yas Island spectacular project, there are earlier mentioned Ferrari World, the world’s largest indoor theme park and the first with a Ferrari theme, the Yas Links Golf Course and Yas Marina Circuit with the Yas Marina Hotel, through the gate for the track. “It’s really coming along nicely,” said Mike Oswald, the park’s manager. “All the rides are installed, and the majority of the pools are now filled. We want this to be an experience like nothing else anywhere.” The themed park, called The Legend of the Lost Pearl, inspired by the story of Dana, a young Emirati girl looking to bring prosperity to her village (her ventures followed by greedy bandits in search of the elusive lost pearl), spreads across the 15-hectare land. Among wide range of attraction, the waterpark boasts the 550-metre Bandit Bomber – the first roller coaster in the world to have on-board water and laser special effects, the Liwa Loop – the Middle East’s first looping water slide, the Slither’s Slides with six different themes on five slides for 30 distinct experiences, Tornado slides – first in the Middle East, the Bubbles’ Barrel with the largest surf-able sheet wave surf in the world, as well as the main attraction – the Dawwama ride, a 20-metre high funnel that uses hydromagnetic power to propel six riders at a time uphill. Developed by Aldar Properties and operated by Farah Leisure Parks Management, the waterpark will also feature other attractions such as a Pearl shop, merchandise stores, 3 different restaurant, and some special events like women-only nights and other. The park that will be able to accommodate 7,000 visitors, will be open 7 days a week from 10 am to 7 pm and  premium tickets will be available.
