1810 Skull Pocket Watch

The watch we’ve got to show you today is a little different than usual. The watch we have today is what’s known as a Memento Mori, loosely translated as remember you must die. It is a phrase used to describe a whole range of objects that were designed to remind their owners that life was fleeting, like the passage of time.

Dating from around 1810, the Skull Wwatch is crafted in 18K gold and studded with diamonds set eyes and teet. Designed in the shape of a miniature skull with hinges, this pocket watch tells the time when you peel back the upper dome of the cranium.

Now an Austrian goldsmith says he has made a €17000 (over $21,000) vuvuzela that was ordered by a Russian businessman. The Linz-based craftsman, Klemens Pointer, told that the Russian planned to give the tooter to a South African business partner for the final match of the World Cup on July 11. The luxury vuvuzela, which weighs 2 pounds and has a large diamond on its centre is covered with expensive white gold and is fully functional and just as loud as the cheaper versions.

A great advantage of this innovative hour display is that the cubes feature numerals on two sides, so they display a.m. or p.m time. As for the minutes, they are traditionally shown by a minute hand.

Limited to 380 pieces the design is inspired by the imposing aircraft featuring the distinctive two rows of windows and the A 380’s typical shape. This fountain pen is crafted of 750 solid white gold with platinum-plated fittings, 15 diamond on the cap ring and 12 diamonds on the cone and cap top.
