BMW ActiveHybrid 5 Series Concept
Recently could hear the many stories related to the BMW future plans, but what is certain the company will unveil the 2011 BMW F10 5 Series 535i Plug-In Hybrid at the 2011 Shanghai Motor Show. It is confirmed by BMW CEO Norbert Reithofer and on that occasion he said: A highlight at the Shanghai Motor Show in mid-April will be the presentation of our New Energy Vehicle. This model will be our e-car from China for China-a long version of the BMW 5 Series as a plug-in hybrid. This car will benefit from the strength and the excellent reputation of the BMW brand.
Reithofer confirmed the presentation of the production version of the MINI Coupe, first seen as a concept model at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show, and the second generation of the BMW 1 Series, both of which will be launched this year alongside the new M5 sports saloon and the 6-Series models.
The New Energy Vehicle concept that will be shown at Shanghai will feature a powertrain that could potentially appear in future BMW plug-in hybrids for other regions. Details on the new model have not yet been released, although commentators believe that the car’s propulsion system is unlikely to be significantly different from the 5-Series ActiveHybrid, which uses a V6 3.0 liter engine and a 50hp electric motor.
BMW started building the traditionally powered long-wheel-base 5 Series in 2010 under its joint venture with Brilliance in Shenyang. At the Auto Shanghai event vehicles aimed at all classes of Chinese society will be on display, with General Motors expected to officially launch the first model by Baojun, the joint venture it announced last year with Chinese automaker SAIC.
