Vermilion mansion which looks like a giant white serpent on the southern shore of Lake Erie is being offered for the first time since construction was completed in 1991. The home is a series of 20 square concrete buildings connected, like beads on a necklace, by glass corridors. Each building is topped with a slate pyramid, giving the home the appearance of several smaller homes side by side. Hugh Newell Jacobsen, the great American architect worked on this project though he could not see it through the completion.

The estate, which sits on 160 acres has 38,000 square feet of living space. The home has a total of five bedrooms, nine bathrooms and seven half-bathrooms. Other home’s features are  3 kitchens, two kitchenettes, nine fireplaces, a wine grotto, a sauna, a private barber shop, two passenger elevators, a 40 foot lap pool and a 20 foot round indoor pool, a private marina and a helicopter landing pad (unfortunately, helicopter sold separately). There is also a rotating dining room that ensures all guests have a view of Lake Erie.

Scott Street, president and chief executive officer of Street Sotheby’s International Realty, said: The Waterwood Estate property exemplifies what we have tried to achieve as a company and a brand. We set the bar high and we have worked with passion and undying commitment to achieve our vision. I am proud that we have attracted and selected the exceptional Waterwood Estate listing.

With the price of $19.5 million, The Waterwood Estate is the highest-priced home for sale in Ohio, $4.5 million more than the next most expensive Ohio home. [Sotheby’s]
