In the heart of Monte-Carlo, just steps from Casino Square and near the city center, you’ll find famous Hotel Metropole. Blending contemporary glamour and old-world elegance, this hotel is housed in a Belle-Époque building that dates back to 1886. Refurbished in 2004 by famed French interior designer Jacques Garcia, the hotel is decorated in a classic Mediterranean style including antiques and artwork. Hotel’s newest addition is Odyssey – a concept created by Chef Joël Robuchon and Karl Lagerfeld.
The new space, a true haven of peace, features pool area, gardens, terrace, restaurant (Joël Robuchon’s third restaurant within the hotel )and cocktail bar exclusive to hotel residents and to the “Odyssey” members.
Karl Lagerfeld designed a bespoke 20 x 3 meter photographic mural-style installation alongside Metropole’s swimming pool. The mural was inspired by the Journey of Ulysses around the Mediterran Sea from Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey.
The mural is made of 18 etched glass panels showcasing muses in togas designed by Karl Lagerfeld. The images of the models were superimposed onto photographs of the Greek coastline taken between the 1850s and 1860s. The mural is lit by a LED system – it adjusts according to the surrounding natural light, and creates effects of movement.
With this new Odyssey restarant, Hotel Metropole, Monte-Carlo is the only one hotel in the world to have three restaurants attributed to the chef.
