Two years ago Jacob & Co. introduced Twin Turbo – a watch that combines two triple-axis tourbillons and a minute repeater. At this year’s Baselworld, the New York-based company continued to impress with new versions of its visually stunning and uber-complex beast of a watch built on a complexity and ingenuity of its predecessor with the addition of a monopusher chronograph and accelerated twin triple axis tourbillons.

Cased in black DLC titanium and carbon fibre, the Twin Turbo Furious is a leviathan (57mm x 52mm). The complex case is made of 88 parts. The watch is wound up through the crank placed on the crown at 3 o’clock. The minute repeater slide is located at 9 o’clock. The dial is smoked sapphire crystal allowing a view of the movement’s intricacies. It features the “Jacob & Co.” logo and a red neoralithe inner ring with seconds graduation and indexes with luminescent material.

The tourbillons both rotate around their first axis in 24 seconds, their second axis in 8 seconds and their third axis in 30 seconds. The tourbillon carriages thus cover all possible positions in just half a minute and compensate for the effects of gravity, considerably increasing the precision of the movement. This is a significant evolution from the watch’s previous version, which took 8 minutes to cover over all the positions.

Given the speed of the tourbillons, the balance wheel’s beat at 6 ticks per second offers a fragmented and visually powerful rhythm that led to the “sequential” name. The differential that connects the two tourbillon carriages stabilises the entire system. In the event of a shock, if either of the two tourbillons is affected, the other would instantly compensate.

The final feature on this mechanical behemoth is the reference time indicator, inspired by motorsports lap display panels that would reference the time a driver is behind in the lap. It’s like wearing a Bugatti on the wrist!
The Jacob & Co.Twin Turbo Furious is fitted with a leather strap secured on a folding buckle. A limited edition of 18 pieces, it retails for CHF 525,000.
