Montblanc Meisterstuck Solitaire Royal LeGrand
For nearly one hundred years the name Montblanc has stood for the art of writing. Montblanc has created a number of remarkable series of limited edition dedicated to the world of arts and culture. Montblanc Meisterstuck Solitaire Royal LeGrand (White Diamond Solitaire for short) certainly deserves special note as one of the most extraordinary, rare and exclusive fountain pens ever made.
White Diamond Solitaire will be the highlight of the Bonhams & Butterfields sale of Fine Writing Instruments in Los Angeles on May 23, 2011. The pre sale estimate for the legendary pen is around $175,000. It will not be a surprise if the bidding goes on beyond the estimate at the Bonhams & Butterfields’ auctions.
The masterpiece of a collection of over 200 fountain pens that will constitute the sale is set with over 4,600 brilliant cut white diamonds over an 18 karat yellow gold barrel and cap top emblem composed of seven diamonds. It is easily one of the most exclusive creations by Montblanc and it was only made to order in limited quantities.
One more important and interesting item at the auction is a Montblanc Sir Winston Churchill fountain pen, the last of only 53 produced. Churchill famously preferred Montblanc and used them to sign many very important documents. Made out of 18 karat rose gold inlaid with tortoise shell lacquer bands, along with a cap top ringed with 53 diamonds the pen is estimated at $15,000 – $25,000. [Bonhams]
