A rare 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO, one of only 39 ever built has been involved in the world’s most expensive car crashes ever. Multi-millionaire Christopher Cox was driving his more than $30 million worth car when crashed into another car in France.
Cox has driven his only 250 GTO painted blue with a yellow racing stripe during a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the race car. Details of the accident are slim, but reports say the vehicle left the famous Reims-Gueux racetrack and collided with enough force to injure three people including his wife Ann, who broke her leg.
Cox purchased the car in 2005, and has been a regular fixture at car shows with the car. Originally red, chassis number 3445GT was painted in the blue and yellow livery in 1963 to match the colours of its Swedish racing driver Ulf Norinder, who passed away in 1978. The car features a 3-litre V12 engine that can sprint from 0-60mph in 6.1 seconds and a offers top speed of 174mph.
This is not the first time the car was involved in a crash. In 1976, a previous owner has damaged the GTO in a traffic accident enough to lead it to a full restoration.
