$1.000 Chocolate Easter egg at New York Bakery

Tradition of easter egg dyeing and painting is a popular activity that dates back many of years, but a more modern Easter custom has evolved – using chocolate eggs instead. Easter is here for a few days, and New Yorkers will be lucky enough to view an exquisite giant chocolate Easter Egg in the city. A 3-feet tall Angry Birds inspired Easter egg is on display and for sale at Sugar and Plumm, a New York bakery which specializes in chocolate. And, the price is cool – $1,000! “The egg for me was, I see everywhere small eggs, medium eggs. And I thought why not make something completely ‘wow’ to attract the attention, and to show how exciting Easter can be with such a big egg,” Bakery owner Lamia Jacobs explained how she got the idea for the expensive treat. The egg measures approximately 30″ tall by 18″ wide and weighs around 22 pounds. This exclusive chocolate egg is hand-crafted with the bakery’s signature dark Venezuelan chocolate called criollo, milk and white chocolates. It takes about four days and two people to create this choco extravagance, two of which have already been bought by the owner, Lamia Jacobs’ friends. Historically, the first Easter Egg custom evolved from early Christians who use to stain eggs in red in memory of the blood of Christ, shed at his crucifixion. But it wasn’t until 1610 when eggs were proclaimed as a symbol of resurrection by Pope Paul V.
