Plans for a hotel that will use exclusively solar energy for their own purposes has been presented in Dubai. “Indigo” – the eco-friendly hotel with 170 rooms, which should be open in 2017, is part of an ambitious project The Sustainable City (TSC). All hotel’s produced waste will be sorted and recycled. Instead of grass, for whose maintenance needs a lot of water, will be used native plants, and guests will be transported to the center of the city with buses operated by solar energy.

According to Pascal Gauvin, chief operating officer of the Intercontinental Hotels Group for India, Middle East and Africa, the hotel will be built in cooperation with the company “Diamond Developers”.
Part of the complex will be residential buildings, environmental school, local community, equestrian club, public garage covered with solar panels and farm organic food, as well as tourist attractions such as the planetarium and a grassy amphitheater.

Faris Saeed, CEO of Diamond Developers, who is behind project points out that the city of Dubai is expanding daily in a new and interesting way. “The Sustainable City will set the standard for environmental standards and will include a number of interesting tourist attractions as well as venues to attract business events and meetings”.
It is expected that the “Sustainable City” meet the highest standards of environmental, social and commercial viability in an effort to become a regional leader in the field of ecotourism and global environmental protection.
Intercontinental Hotels Group currently has 18 hotels in the United Arab Emirates, and within five years should be open ten more buildings.
