Most of the scorpions in the U.S. are found in the southwest, preferring the warm, dry climates found in Arizona, California and New Mexico. But a home built in the shape of a scorpion? That’s exactly what we can see. Designed by architect Eddie Jones of the Jones Studio, spacious 4,700 square foot contemporary residence known as the Scorpion House has hit the market in Scottsdale, Arizona for $5.5 million.

Built in 2001 on a little over an acre of land in the gated Estancia community, the Scorpion House has been awarded 7 design awards including ‘ Gold, Architecture under 5,000 Square Feet’ by The Arizona Home Book Design Excellence Awards. The property has also been featured in numerous publications including Architectural Digest, Desert Living Magazine, and Arizona Home Book.
Architect Eddie Jones and Construction Zone masterfully blended poured concrete, glass and oxidized titanium panels into a curvilinear plan that spans the desert and boulder outcroppings in an organic form to protect the natural setting.

“Hillside contours, boulder field, distant views, and stands of old saguaro, shape the cast-in-place concrete ledge. Interlocking the curvilinear retaining walls, a protective shell of oxidized titanium plates integrates the ‘scorpion’ forms with desert shadow,” notes Jones Studio in its description of the design.
The 4,700 square foot plan includes 4 bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms. Some of the features include: elevator, wet bars, a lot of fireplaces, a hemispherical pool, covered patio and separate guest house.
“The ”Scorpion House” is perhaps the most acclaimed home to ever hit the market in north Scottsdale,” notes the listing.
