Italian artist and sculptor Maurizio Cattelan, created the fully functioning, 18 carat gold toilet which will be installed in NYC”s Guggenheim Museum on May 4. All visitors who have paid museum admission will be able to use it in the name of art, since the toilet will replace one of the museum’s porcelain Kohler toilets in a one-person, unisex restroom.

Yes, you can use it, but, only if you don’t mind the presence of a security guard. The toilet, titled “Maurizio Cattelan: America,” will have a full-time security guard who will stand outside the bathroom to ensure no one is vandalizing the toilet.
The Guggenheim paid for the toilet with private funds of an undisclosed amount. However, this art work will be the first time a usable toilet has been on display at the Guggenheim.
