At least once in life, each of us have been faced with one of the worst of human traits – greed. Whatever kind of it, even if it small, greed is not desirable. For all those who can’t control themselves, Amsterdam based conceptual artist-designer, Diddo Velema has created The Cure for Greed. Although it will cost you $10,000, but at least you’ll get rid of that unhealthy feeling, or as dictionary says : “excessive or rapacious desire, especially for wealth or possessions”!
“The Cure For Greed” is an injection kit with two 24-karat gold plated syringes, two gold plated needles and a single 5 ml dose of dollar ink—literally the ink used on dollar bills, and all nicely packaged in a custom-made, personally monogrammed mahogany box.
First, Diddo has chopped a lot of $50 bills to turn them into pulp, and then using chemical separation process, he extracted the pigment from approximately 10,000 of US currency, then “re-stabilized the ink” into liquid form and put the ink into medical vials.
Diddo says the project is “an invitation to reexamine our assumptions and inject them with the type of energy that will ensure new and evolving perspectives.”
Watching into these chopped $10,000, I must admit that I felt a little greed!
