Garmin’s Fenix – New Adventure GPS Watch for Outdoor Activities
Electronics company Garmin has decided to put their top GPS products into sport watches, so they announced launching Garmin’s first GPS watch. Ideal for outdoor activities, such as golfing, cycling, hunting, hiking and etc., new watch is dubbed The Fenix (The fçnix). Priced at $399, Garmin’s Fenix coming in September of 2012.
The Fenix has built-in sensors to provide you navigation and information about trip as well as information on heading, elevation and weather changes. It can store up to 10,000 Track points and up to 1,000 Waypoints. During your outdoor activities, watch allows you to create routes, record waypoints and it produces real maps right on the watch face. The Fenix also features built-in altimeter (it provides elevation data to monitor ascent and descent), barometer (displays short-term air-pressure trends so users can forecast weather changes) and a three-axis electronic compass (helps a user keep his bearing whether he or she is moving or not). It is also compatible with a Garmin’s heart rate monitor strap or a cycling cadence sensor to make the device more useful for fitness enthusiasts.
“At its heart rate soul the Garmin fenix really looks like it can take the place of a handheld GPS and go right on your wrist, which is pretty darn convenient if you need to stay hands-free”, says Rusty Squire, President of the Heart Rate Watch Company.
The Garmin’s Fenix is waterproof to 50 meters (164 feet) and has a battery life of up to 50 hours in GPS mode and up to six weeks in watch mode before recharging. Styled to be worn on an everyday basis, Fenix features a high-strength housing and scratch-resisting display. Its other functions include alarms, tones, vibration alerts, timer, stopwatch and a world clock that displays several times zones at once.
The watch comes with a BaseCamp desktop application to let users plan trips and share them with friends and family. The Fenix uses both wireless ANT technology and Bluetooth to wirelessly share tracks, waypoints, routes and geo-caches with other compatible Garmin devices.
