Julien’s Auctions will offer a rare, custom made Vox guitar played by John Lennon and George Harrison in the mid-1960s to the highest bidder on May 18, 2013 at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York. The Beatles, Elvis Presley, Jimi Hendrix, the Grateful Dead, Michael Jackson, and Bob Dylan, among others, will be up for sale at music memorabilia auction.
According to the Beverly Hills-based auction house, a rare Vox custom-made electric guitar played by Lennon and Harrison during the Fab Four’s Magical Mystery Tour days will be highlight of upcoming sale, with an estimated price of $200,000 – $300,000.
Described as “one of the most historical pieces of musical memorabilia” in the auctioneers’ catalog, this custom-built instrument was built by craftsmen Mike Bennett and Dickey Denney.
“It’s extraordinary when you have the opportunity to offer such an amazing piece of music history as the Vox guitar played by both George Harrison and John Lennon,” Martin Nolan, Executive Director of Julien’s Auctions, said in a press release. “From ‘Here Comes the Sun’ to ‘Hello Goodbye,’ this guitar is truly one of the most historical pieces of music memorabilia Julien’s Auctions has ever had the pleasure Prior to the NY auction, Lennon and Harrison’s old guitar will be on display in Ireland’s Museum of Style Icons from April 16 to May 5.of offering.”
Elvis’ personal clothing, signed pieces and jewelry will also be offered, as well as a signed pillow that Michael Jackson once threw from a hotel window. There will also be some of Rick Griffin’s Grateful Dead artwork, Bob Dylan’s handwritten “Mr. Tambourine Man” lyrics, Jim Morrison’s handwritten poetry, and Jimi Hendrix’s personal guitar strap.
