Few days ago we were informing you about Natalie Wood’s Mercedes 300 SL Roadster which will go under the hammer at upcoming Amelia Island, Florida sale. Now, RM Auctions have announced that another eye-catching lot will be included in the same sale, in the form of a celebrity Packard. The example in question is a rare 1932 Packard Twin Six Individual Custom Convertible Sedan by Dietrich, estimated to fetch $900,000 – $1,2 million. Chassis no. 900104, this rare Packard is available for sale for the first time in 33 years. The car is offered from the collection of Bob and Sandra Bahre and boasts a well-preserved Steve Gunder restoration.
Mr. Bahre is an enthusiast who prides himself in cars that are not only restored by the best but also maintained by the best. Accordingly, the Packard has enjoyed excellent care over the last three decades. The result is a restoration that belies its age, as its paint, interior, and chrome are crisp and nearly fresh, and it is still virtually show ready in all regards. Importantly, the car is still equipped with the vacuum-assisted clutch that was available only on the Ninth Series Twin Six, and it still functions properly.
The car is accompanied by a collection of documentation that dates back to the 1960s, including Harrah’s Automobile Collection registrations.
According to press release: Series 906. 160 bhp, 445 cu. in. side-valve V-12 engine with Stromberg downdraft carburetion, three-speed synchromesh manual transmission, solid front axle and hypoid live rear axle with semi-elliptic leaf-spring suspension, and four-wheel adjustable vacuum-assisted brakes. Wheelbase: 147.5 in.
