The Oasis of the Seas, the most massive cruise ship ever built sailed into the UK this week for the first time ever. World’s largest cruise ship cruised into Southampton on Wednesday morning. £800M ship weighs 225,282 tonnes, it is 208ft wide and 1,187ft long (longer than London’s The Shard). This mega ship can house 5,400 passengers, along with 2,394 crew on its 16 decks. With twenty-one swimming pools, its own version of New York’s Central Park, the AquaTheater, the first amphitheater at sea, seven distinct neighborhoods built for ultimate enjoyment, the 10,000 square metres of shopping space, 37 bars and over 20 restaurants, it is 40 per cent larger than any other vessel to have ever docked on British shores.
The Oasis of the Seas took three years to build in Finland and was launched in 2009. Her sister ship Allure of the Seas is expected to follow in May 2015 with nearly identical enhancements.
