Housed in a former airship hangar that covers the area of about eight football fields,Tropical Islands claims to be the world’s largest indoor water park and the largest freestanding hall in the world (at 32 stories high, the Statue of Liberty could stand upright in it). Located about 37 miles south of Berlin and 62 miles north of Dresden, Tropical Islands is convenient to Germany’s well-trodden tourist path.
Originally intended for the assembly of cargo dirigibles, the location now is home to an attractive recreational area of 710,000 square feet in seize, featuring shows, entertainment, swimming, sports activities, a children’s club, beach parties, restaurants and souvenirs.
The impressive hall, 1.181 feet long, 689 feet wide and 351 feet high, presents an authentical tropical vegetation with 500 different plants and allows insights into the cultures of Brazil, Bali, Thailand, Malaysia and Kenya. Tropical Islands also features the world’s largest indoor rain forest (50,000 plants) and Germany’s highest waterslide (82 feet) and provides 42 mph slide experience.
As it never rains, the weather is always ideal with air temperatures from 25-28C and water temperatures from 28-31C. ou can even relax on the beach and get a nice tan on the white-sand beaches, as from 6am to 6pm a transparent foil lets UV rays penetrate the south side of the roof. The large tropical wellness area is a special relaxing experience. Six different wellness zones with attractions like a gemstone steam sauna, a blossom steam sauna, a healing earth bath various aryuveda applications await the visitor. Recreation can be found in relaxation and meditation rooms, solariums and massage proposals.
Children are well catered for in the Tropino Club. The 4000 square metre area has a go-kart track, enormous climbing frame and power paddling boats. In the evening shows are provided which sample cultures of Africa, Asia, Oceania, South America and the Carribean Islands. Even nightlife you can find in the Tropical Islands, as there are DJs and top musicians every night. Furthermore it is possible to rent a tent for a private party. Oh, and did we mention the 18-hole mini golf course.
